As a company, Quiksilver Incorporated designs and distributes sportswear, beachwear and wetsuits for the sports enthusiast. The company and wetsuit, however have had a long a storied rise to power.
Originally founded by two Australian surfing enthusiasts in 1976, the Quiksilver brand gained popularity with their boardshorts, swimsuits, and wetsuits during its first decade of business. Encouraged by this success, the company diversified into many different types of active wear, and expanded their vendor list from the specialist surfing shops to major department stores world wide. This allowed the Quicksilver brand of wetsuits to become much more accessible to the world market, and therefore a quite successful brand.
The Quicksilver name was first brought to the United States by Robert McKnight and Jeffrey Hakman. Originally based in Torquay Australia, the Quiksilver company and wetsuit brand was also started by Alan Greene and John Law. Robert McKnight and Jeffrey Hakman bought the licensing rights for the Quiksilver brand and quickly turned the wetsuits and other water sports accessories into the powerhouse brands that they are today. Over time, these wetsuits with Velcro closures, and form fitting design became some of the most popular wetsuits in the market.
