Borth beach ideal place to try Gul wetsuit in November

A new attraction in Wales may mean that there will soon be an increase in the number of surfers visiting the area, some of whom are likely to have chosen a Gul wetsuit to take to the sea in.

A man-made barrier reef, due to be finished in November this year, is being built in Borth, near Aberystwyth, to act as a coastal defence. Ceredigion Council hopes it will protect the region’s coast from erosion and floods.

However, a spokesperson has explained that it will also “focus and shape the waves in an attempt to improve surfability, hopefully giving surfers a longer controlled ride”.

The whole coastal defence scheme has cost £29 million, but surfing schools believe that the 300 mile reef will attract more holidaymakers to their shores which will make up for the expenses of the project.

Borth beach is already award-winning and a well-known surfing spot but with an added attraction for surfers soon to be included, people in men and women’s wetsuits may soon be seen on the shoreline, and in the waves, in greater quantities than usual.

Furthermore, the council has judged that the new reef will reduce overcrowding in other areas along the coast because, as the spokesperson stated, “people will want to see it”.

The chief executive of Mid Wales Tourism has said, “We hope this new investment will attract many new surfers to mid Wales whilst also protecting Borth and adjoining tcoastal area.”

It is also likely that the introduction of the barrier reef will mean that some shops in the area, which may stock such items as surfboards, rashguards and Gul wetsuits, will see an increase in trade as people who want to take part in the popular water-sport buy the equipment they need.
